New Online Textbook
This year is exciting--so many changes to look forward to in Shiloh High French Department! Block schedule, launch of academies, and a bigger foreign language department! First of all, we are getting rid of the outdated textbooks (with vocabulary words that included "floppy disk"--the kids all asked what a floppy disk even was!) and are replacing them with new, up to date textbooks called D'accord which means "Okay" or "in agreement" in French.
This textbook is excellent for students and teachers--it has a short video segment at the beginning of each lesson that pertains to the content. Every student will receive (hopefully by October) their own virtual version of the book. Students will be expected to do the interactive exercises for reading, listening, speaking, and writing ONLINE! This is great because students can get immediate feedback about what they are doing right instead of waiting for that one minute a day where they can say an answer during class and I can tell them whether they are right or wrong.
Another exciting part of this year will be the use of interactive notebooks. Interactive notebooks are a new way of note taking that is implemented a lot by foreign language immersion programs in elementary school, as well as middle and high schools across the country. Students will need to take responsibility for their own notebook, and everything--I mean EVERYTHING, will go in their notebook. I have started a sample one for French One using a blend of products other teachers have created on Teachers Pay Teachers and my own stuff.
As you can see, it is a more visual way of taking notes that students will spend time on, think about, and use over and over. Color and design is SO important when learning a new language, this will engage all types of learners and be a good resource for future French classes. I will grade it every six weeks to make sure everyone is on track.
A personal goal for me is to be better at parent communication. In addition to eClass, I want to keep up with this blog, but also send out a bi-weekly newsletter for parents to stay in the know. (And I'll include a French lesson so you can talk to your student about it!) More details coming up soon.
Welcome to my French 1 and Honors French 2 classes! The posts here are highlights of projects and work we come up with as a class, as well as what we are doing in class every day. Posts may be sporadic (because I am busy grading papers and planning awesome lessons!) But I will try to update as much as possible. Want to stay in the know about your student AND learn a little French while doing it? Sign up for the weekly newsletter in my "Contact Me" section!
