Graphic Novel Unit for French II
As part of my Master's program, I researched the use of graphic novels in the foreign language classroom. My findings were that graphic novels are highly useful in learning the target language and that students also learn how to think critically with their 21st century skills, particularly visual literacy.

Food Around the World Unit for French I
Students LOVE to learn about culture, especially food! Through the use of manipulatives (like a real fruit or food) and drawing, students learn the vocabulary essential to ordering food in a Francophone country. Then, each student or pair chooses a country they would like to know more about and creates a "marketplace" tri-fold of that country. The trifold should be decorated to look like a marketplace in the country, it should include facts about the country's government and people, and make connections to how the marketplace and food sold in that country are related to the society of that country. The day of, students lined up in the hallway, dressed in costume and with a real food dish prepared to "sell." Students practiced speaking in French to "buy" food from each other, using fake euros that they had accumulated over the semester, and learned about supply and demand. This was the most exciting project I did all year, and to look at the unit, head over to my TeachersPayTeachers store here.
