About Me
As a PERSON
I am a teacher, and I love it, but I am not my job! Who I am outside of school:
Education
In 2013, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Georgia College with a major in French Language and Literature and a minor in English Literature. I earned a Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Education (at GC again) degree in 2014. Honors include French Honor Society, Weir/Wells Study Abroad Scholarship, and HOPE scholarship.
My passions for language and culture led me to seek opportunities abroad. I spent five weeks in Madrid, Spain during the summer of 2010 studying Spanish history. It was there that I realized that the world was so much bigger than I had ever imagined, and started planning my next trip.
My junior year, I took off as an exchange student in Lausanne, Switzerland, for a year, learning French at the University of Lausanne. Living in student dormitories right on Lake Geneva, I picked up French and many international perspectives from students from all over the world. I dove right in to trying different foods from my Chinese roommate, I went skiing for the first time, I worked on class projects with people from Eastern Europe, and I learned how to communicate without being able to speak the same language. One of my shining moments included being on the Public Relations team for the University of Lausanne's Model United Nations, translating their speeches and website and designing posters for the events (all in French!)
That year was the most crucial year of my education, teaching me the ways of the world, acceptance, curiosity, flexibility, patience, and the importance of learning how to live a happy life. Now, I intend to always hold this philosophy for my own teaching, and pass it on to my students.
Education Experience
Previously, I taught French levels 1 and 2 at Shiloh High School in Gwinnett County, Georgia. After two years, I moved to teaching Hebrew and social-emotional learning at Jewish Kids' Groups in Atlanta. Then moving into a completely different position with a charter school in Atlanta Public Schools as an English and Social Studies 4th grade teacher. I am looking forward to working as a language teacher with high school students at Wheeler again!
